Adiskidan "Adis" Ambaye
Influenced by the different cultural and contemporary artists of Ethiopia,
Adiskidan Ambaye developed an insatiable appetite for art at an early age. Her
childhood was spent perfecting her incredible talent. Adiskidan (goes by Adis)
thoroughly incorporates her heritage in her work. Combining her cultural
background with modern contemporary style is Adis' ultimate goal.
At the Minneapolis College of Art and Design she embraced expression through
painting, drawing, furniture design and sculpting. Her work reveals the stark
sincerity of a passionate artist who pursues art for art's sake.
Adis' three-dimensional compositions take her and the viewer into unexplored
realms of innovative techniques and media that flaunt color, texture, balance
and symmetry, finding a place in the interplay therein. Her play on aesthetics,
using lines and curves, take her into the form and allow her to illustrate her
life's experience and deep sense of self and creativity, which ultimately shapes
the outcome of her artwork.
She uses color, texture, balance and asymmetry with bold abandon, challenging
the viewer with her work, daring others as she dares each challenge, to view the
world through her lens. She has explored designs, which blend Ethiopian and
contemporary furniture styles and hopes to create a body of work that will earn
its place as a permanent fixture in the hall of furniture design.
